Leadership, Learned at Home
No doubt being a father and being married for almost 15 years has made me a better person. But it’s also made me a better manager.
Not because you need a family to lead well, but because, for me, it changed how I see people.
Outside of my wife and kids, the people I talk to most are my team. And over time, you start to understand things differently. When to push. When to let something go. What’s actually worth the fight, and what’s just noise.
When you care about people, and they care about what they’re doing, you realize something important. Passion can look messy in the moment, but it usually comes from a good place. Most people are trying to do what’s right.
It reminds me of A Beautiful Mind. There’s that realization that the best outcome doesn’t come from everyone chasing their own win. It comes when people make decisions that are good for themselves and for the group.
That’s what good teams look like.
When people are aligned like that, what’s best for the individual usually ends up being what’s best for the company.
I’m grateful for my wife. I’m grateful for my kids. And I’m grateful for the team I get to work with every day.
